Yet another gratifying, but long day at the clinic. We have seen, in total, 560 patients among ten doctors in two days. And yes, that number IS as exhausting as it sounds. I scribed again and had the process down pat by the end of the morning session. The three main drugs used; Captropril, Atenolol, and Hydrochloroziade. These medications were numbers 27, 11, and 39 in the book and I quickly realized that I didn’t even need the prescription table of contents anymore because I knew where to find them. I found myself working faster than ever before and I was glad that meant we got to help more patients.

Our eyes went wide when we saw lunch: buttered noodles. Let’s just say our side of the table cleared three bowls of it; we kept stealing from other tables.

In the clinics we prayed. We prayed that the patients’ blood pressure would go down, that their joint pain would go away, or that the migraines would stop. One woman cried during the circle of intertwined arms and hearts because of the overwhelming gratitude she felt for modern medicine AND for God above. The smile always spread to their eyes and you could see the happiness in them.

Some of the patients, on the other hand, were joking around during the examination. They were laughing and smiling through their pain because they knew they were in the doctor’s hands and that was all they had ever hoped for when they first signed up. We even ended up taking a selfie with one of them—per doctor’s request, of course.

We ended the day with a night walk to a little corner store to buy toys for the children. Our pediatrician is a very caring individual and was more than happy to pay with her own money to bring goodies into these kids’ lives who have almost nothing.
