Toys and Modeling 6/24/16

The last day of clinic included toys, toys, and more toys for me. I scribed for our pediatrician today and all the children got to take as many toys as they wanted when they left. It was unfortunate because a lot of them had worms and were pretty malnourished because of it. We had the right medication for it which only needs three days to completely work, so that was the good news we got to tell the families. Another thing that I got fast at was writing in Armenian. Lots of Armenian last names are at least 8 letters long so when I got a Bagaybagayan or Yemenidjian I kind of hoped the doctor would take just a teensy bit longer to talk to the family so I could write their names on five different prescription papers. At the end of the day, a man came in with an ingrown toe nail that needed to be removed. Up until this point, the mission had mostly been pharmaceutical, but this was surgery that needed to happen. We had the supplies so the doctors took charge and removed it. I watched the whole process and even assisted with the gauze pads and syringes when it came to the anesthesia. It was a great way to end our last day of working in clinic.

After we cleaned up the church, we left for Lake Sevan to explore and to hike to the top of the hill where there were two churches that are included in the monastery of Sevanavank. The views were breathtaking and we could see all of the surrounding city around Lake Sevan.

We took WAY too many pictures. Modeling is not my thing because I never know where to put my arms and legs. They just awkwardly move about my body until one arm ends up swinging back and forth and my right foot is somehow in the air.

After that we went for a night out on the town with our Scoops ice cream in hand. (the cherry flavor wasn’t quite as amazing as Rite Aid’s cherry chip, but that’s a pretty tough comparison).

We headed to a jazz club that was underground and had about five guys that were smoking cigars. After my eyes started watering and I couldn’t breathe, I decided to go back to the hotel for the night.
