Where It All Began

Being fair skinned in a race that is predominately known for a dark complexion tends to make me stand out. I'm a dirty blonde-haired sunblock enthusiast and very proud of it. Armenians are known for their beach-ready tans and dark luscious locks which is why a lot of the Armenian Church Youth Organization members were confused when my brother, sister, and I walked in on the first day with our hats on to avoid freckling. Yes, my immediate family is 100% Armenian, meaning: my mom is Armenian, my dad is Armenian, every single one of my grandparents are or were Armenian. Sometimes, I feel like I need to pull up ancestry. com to prove to people my own heritage which can be disheartening at times because I never truly felt accepted into my own culture. I felt as if a part of myself was missing because my siblings and I didn't exactly grow up with the Armenian culture and my parents didn't speak the language. A sort of identity crisis overtook me and I decided a change was necessary. I wanted to strengthen my connection with my ancestors so I opened a browser and did research on Armenian history, politics, current events, and culture. I wanted a space to collect all this new information and also provide my own commentary on the matter, so I started this website to reconnect with my roots. If you're another Armenian in a similar situation, an Armenian in a completely different situation, or not Armenian at all, it would be my pleasure to welcome you to my website to listen to my musings and mutterings. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed!
